March 29 - I had a great time this evening meeting up with the knitting group at Macmillan

March 28 - judging by the number of greenfly colonising my outdoor geraniums, spring is here at last

March 27 - it's a shame that the art of writing letters is dying out; a letter is so much more satisfying to receive than a text or email. I get a letter from my friend Dawn every couple of weeks - she writes on several postcards instead of plain paper, so I get the added bonus of pictures with her words.

March 25 - I worked for a gemstone merchant in Hatton Garden (London's jewellery district) during a college holiday in the Sixties. One of my jobs was to help unpack crates that arrived from all over the world, clean the specimens and sort them into trays. The worst crates to empty were the ones full of amethysts from Brazil - the spiders were enormous!

March 23 - I find the shape, texture and symmetry of cacti fascinating; flowers are a bonus. I don't know what the name of this one is, but the plants crowd the pot at soil level, striking upwards for freedom like tiny skyscrapers.
Three little words

They're probably not the ones you were expecting; I'm talking about Addi Turbo Lace.
Nice pointy tips made from hollow brass, coated to give better stitch control (so the blurb says) and pliable red cords. I'll let you know what I think when I've had chance to try them out...

Rewards
Tuesday, March 20, 2007
When I get to the end of a long work project, I usually reward myself with one or two nice goodies. This is reward #1, a jacket kit from Hanne Falkenberg. And yes, I realise it's outside the limits of my yarn diet...
Lovely colours and design; the yarn feels good, too. I don't know how I'll get along with knitting miles and miles of mindless garter stitch though.
Rewards #2 and #3 - Sharon Miller's Heirloom Knitting from here and Interweave's Lace Style from here. Heirloom Knitting is wonderful; to be honest, I'm less than impressed with the other book. There are three designs I really like but I think the rest are, er, fairly hideous. Other nice stuff that arrived lately includes:
This month's Sock Club yarn from The Woolly Workshop - CTH Supersock Solids in a tooth-tingling lime green. I'm planning to pair it with the same yarn in bright purple and make lime socks with purple heels and toes and purple socks with lime ditto.
March's Sock Club yarn from Fyberspates - beautifully soft blue faced Leicester. Not my usual sort of thing, but the colour scheme's beginning to grow on me.

March 18 - one good thing about having a weekend without work is that I have time to enjoy cooking. Chicken, red onion, leeks, garlic, yellow and green peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes.

March 15 - it never ceases to amaze me how quickly an old and unruly jade plant will respond to a good pruning
