There has been a lot of coughing/sneezing over the past week or so; I'm feeling much better now so here's a quick round-up of what's been going on here.

The amaryllis flowers are now over, but were lovely while they lasted.

YAK_yarn1

A new LYS has opened in the city - YAK Yarn and Knitting at 16, Gloucester Road, Brighton, BN1 4AD. Opening times: Tue - Sat 10am - 6pm, Sun 11am - 4pm. I managed a quick visit before the cold germs struck. YAK's official Grand Opening is this Saturday, February 7th, 2pm - 6pm.

The 2014 Advent Calender Scarf is coming along nicely; I have four more patterns left to knit. The impossible-to-photograph yarn colour's darker/richer/nicer in real life.

A good day

Craftaganza

We had a good day at Craftaganza yesterday. The other stallholders were friendly, there were masses of people looking round (some buying), the weather was kind and lots of friends came along to see us. Notable mentions go to Penny and twins for banana muffins and to Jamie for very welcome cups of tea at the end of the day.

Faces of the First World War is an IWM project to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. They've uploaded 100 previously unseen portraits of those who served in the war to Flickr and will continue to upload images every weekday between now and the anniversary in August 2014.

Busy, busy, busy

Brighton Craft Guerrilla will be at Craftaganza's Christmas Market at Fabrica on December 10 and I'm busy dyeing, stitching and crocheting all manner of stuff for the stall. The venue's nice and central and we're looking forward to plenty of visitors wandering round and (hopefully) buying! I'll post more details nearer the date.

This is the latest batch of sock yarn ready to be skeined and labelled; I'd better go do just that...

All aboard the Woolly Bus

Wooly Bus Shots 021

From January to August 2011 Cocoon Knits in Hove are running an appeal to raise money for the Martlets Hospice by yarnbombing an open top double decker bus. This involves covering the bus entirely with knitted squares, and we need about 4,000 of them.

Cocoon are calling on experienced, beginners or just curious knitters from all over the country - even the world - to pick up their needles and help. Each participant will collect sponsors and knit a minimum of three 15cm x 15cm squares. The minimum sponsorship amount is £25 per entry but we’re aiming to raise as much as possible.

To celebrate the end of the project the bus will be driven along Brighton seafront on the 20th August with contributors and guests aboard. After the event all blankets will be broken down and sent to Africa with the help of Knit a Square charity to help keep AIDS orphans warm.

We aim to raise over £40,000 for the Martlets Hospice.

For a sponsorship pack please either collect a form from any Martlets shop or Cocoon, 10 George Street, Hove or email your name, address and email to: [email protected] Please state whether you’d like an e version for you to print at home or a physical version sent out to you in the post.
